The Magpie Developer
Jeff Atwood is one of the best programmer/writers around. I love reading his stuff, some I agree wholeheartedly with, other stuff we disagree, but this post is about a dead-on as they come. This idea has been floating in my head for a long time, but it is hard for me to conceptualize it in words, Atwood does a brilliant job at it. Must read for any developer. |

Andy Olmsted's Last Blog Entry.
(Warning: Pretty rough) No matter how you feel politically about the war, this reminds you that each number people throw around as statistics is a human life. This is extremely well written, and pretty rough on your soul towards the end, but something everyone should read. Its a shitty situation all around, but there is always a human face behind the statistics and I want to make sure I never forget that. |

Drinking stories that put yours to shame
Via Keith
To preserve his body during the voyage home, the second-in-command stored Nelson's body in the ship's vat of rum and halted all liquor rations to the crew. Not a bad idea, but when the ship reached port, officials went to retrieve Nelson's body and found the vat dry.
Disregarding good taste (in every sense), the crew had been secretly drinking from it the entire way home. After that, naval rum was referred to as Nelson's Blood. |

making vodka pills in 24 hours
Recently, Chef Fabian was experimenting further with the Adria/Torreblanca technique of making 'vodka pills.' I use this word to describe the process of making liquid-filled candies by pouring flavored alcohol syrups into cornstarch and letting it set until a hard outer shell forms. |

Strategy Letter VI - joelonsoftware.com
As a programmer, thanks to plummeting memory prices, and CPU speeds doubling every year, you had a choice. You could spend six months rewriting your inner loops in Assembler, or take six months off to play drums in a rock and roll band, and in either case, your program would run faster. Assembler programmers don’t have groupies.
Entire Article is Dead On. A must read for anyone in the software biz. |

CBBC Newsround | THE POPE | Choosing a Pope
I am not a catholic, but I think it is a very interesting religion. Everytime I see the pope he seems to look worse an worse, and I think his time may come very shortly. So I stated thinking you know, who chooses the next pope. It seems that there is an exodus to Rome for all the Cardinals in the world (alot of Caridnals to say the least) and I thought man that is alot of plane tickets. Then I thought about how the Catholic church is the richest entitiy in the history of the entire world. So I guess that they probably can afford it. But when you think about it, someone is gonna get a shitload of sky miles when the pope dies. I am talking tons of free trips to places within the continental United States. Well it seems that after this mass migration to Rome, 9 days after the Pope is buried all the cardinals pile into a building and select the Pope by a 2/3rds vote. During the election process the chimneys show black smoke, and on the day they decide on the new pop they burn white smoke, so that everyone will know that a new Pope has been chosen. Kinda neat.

Work
Not Mine, but quality:
For a couple of years I've been blaming it on lack of sleep and too much pressure from my job, but now I've found out the real reason: I'm tired because I'm overworked.
The population of this country is 237 million.
104 million are retired. That leaves 133 million to do the work.
There are 85 million in school, which leaves 48 million to do the work.
Of this there are 29 million employed by the federal government, leaving 19 million to do the work.
2.8 million are in the Armed Forces, which leaves 16.2 million to do the work.
Take from the total the 14,800,000 people who work for state and city governments and that leaves 1.4 million to do the work.
At any given time there are 188,000 people in hospitals, leaving 1,212,000 to do the work.
Now, there are 1,211,998 people in prisons.
That leaves just two people to do the work.
You and me.
And you're sitting at your computer reading jokes.

First one (Andy Sent):
Everything is real (except lines for states)
Second one is one my dad sent me, he questioned if it was real or not and I agree with him that I don't think it is. Still a pretty cool sfx though.

No More Red
Thank the heavens, if you notice I have not put any more pics of my reef up lately becuase of that horrid red diatom bloom I was having. It really sucked getting up in the morning and seeing the tank complely red and barely be able to see the fish. But I dropped my DOCs and just kept the lights to a minimum and I guess the nutrients that cause the bloom have slowly crept away becuase tonight I am able to show a decently clean tank that has not been cleaned in atleast 3 days. Pics are Here. Next paycheck I am gonna throw down some serious dough I think and pick up a few softcorals as long as my chem tests hold out. Well anyways, hope all have had a good day. Peace.

Man if the dawgs play next weekend vs South Carolina like we did this week, I am really scared. Good game though. Pics are posted Here. Also on that page are pics of a cool moth I saw at the gas station outside Gainsville. Quite possibly the coolest moth I have ever seen.
