Absolute Genius.

The Spy at Harriton High
Great read on the tech aspects of the Lower Merion theft tracking situation.

BMW commits to Megacity EV by 2013, will start by testing ActiveE all-electric 1 series next year
2012/2013 is a pretty quick turn around for the auto industry. Certainly makes you wonder how far away they were from it 5 years ago.

From shame to game in one hundred years: An economic model of the rise in premarital sex and its de-stigmatisation
Contraception has reduced the chance of unwanted pregnancies from premarital sex, and this in turn has changed social attitudes. I remember discussing with someone once what we thought the greatest achievement of the 20th century was and I said the Marconi's telegraph, the other person said contraception, they had me agreeing with them after 15 min of discussion.

Making a 3D Model From a Photosynth
Awesome stuff.

History in the Remaking
A temple complex in Turkey that predates even the pyramids is rewriting the story of human evolution.

FlyFire
Flyfire, a project initiated by the SENSEable City Laboratory in collaboration with ARES Lab (Aerospace Robotics and Embedded Systems Laboratory) aims to transform any ordinary space into a highly immersive and interactive display environment.

WhoseTube?
Follow up oped in the NYT from Damian Kulash (who I featured on page 9 saying pretty much the same thing)

Twitter Tracker for the Olympics
Great way for NBC to keep a pulse on what is popular/or not and not at the Olympics from the app that my friends say is worthless and just people talking about what they ate for breakfast.

Behind the Windows 7 memory usage scaremongering
I really haven't seen anything above 40% usage, will be moving to 64bit next week so hoping that stays the same.

Giant Shrimp Spotted Off Georgia Coast
I was hoping for a little bit more 'giant' when I clicked the link, but still pretty interesting. The article didn't say they were invasive species (it mentioned that was undetermined). Wonder if it causes more headaches for the shrimpers on the coast though to sort.

Plane Crash Suspect's Online Diatribe
Worth reading if you haven't already.

School used student laptop webcams to spy on them at school and home
For some reason I don't think that this conveys the entire story and something is missing. I don't see how any one who has any decency and/or education could think that doing something of this nature is in any way moral or legal.

Comments are great also.

Ice Cold Decks
"Any idiot can stack a cold deck to trick an opponent in Texas Hold'em Poker into losing all his chips. However usually the player on the right of the dealer cuts the deck, which means the cheater must swap the deck after this point, which makes it much harder to do subtly"

From ABBA to ZZ Top, All the Good Band Names Are Taken
I was listening to XM the other day where they were interviewing Them Crooked Vultures and they talked about how they originally wanted to name the band "Caligula" but had to choose something else because of all the lawyers. Our copyright/trademark/patent system is in need of some major rework.

In Case You Had Any Doubts About Where Micrsoft's Profit Comes From
I am pretty amazed Entertainment & Devices isn't anymore than it is. I wonder if Xbox Live is condidered Online Services or Entertainment and Devices?

Have Olympic athletes done all they can?
I don't agree and I think that new techniques can still revolutionize some sports. That being said, I do see a lot more new sports with each Olympics. I wonder if instead of inventing tech we are just inventing sports.

Reverse-engineering a smart meter
However, something as important as turning off power completely should require a truck roll. A person driving a truck will not turn off the mayor’s power or hundreds of houses at once without asking questions. A computer will. Remote control should not be a mandatory feature bundled with remote reading.

Why We Make Home Videos
And I don’t worry about future generations not caring; these movies aren’t really for them. They’re for us. These movies will play someday at my children’s wedding receptions. They’ll play for my wife and me on Friday nights when we’re old empty-nesters. Maybe they’ll play for our grandchildren, who will roll around laughing at the quaint, enormous gadgets we carry around.

Pogue on home videos, which I agree with and why Flickr should approach it not like YouTube, but more like an archival service.

Windows Phone 7 Series is official, and Microsoft is playing to win
Very neat looking OS, and I can't wait to try to xbox live integration.
