Sony teams up with HBO to release TV shows for PlayStation Network | VentureBeat
Cable TV will be in its death throes in the next 5 years and will be little more than connections that provide 1 and 0s to your house. It is interesting to see the trojan horses start to pick up different pieces of the content that used to be cable tv specific. I am a big fan of the a la carte model for TV because I don't watch much of it, however my wife does so I have mixed emotions about the direction it is headed. Will certainly be interesting regardless.

Facebook's Culture Problem May Be Fatal - The Conversation - Harvard Business Review
Absolutely fantastic read on Facebook. I wasn't part of the generation that Nussbaum describes but his theory holds sound to all different types of media (music, books, etc).

I've Changed My Mind About The iPad
Great read at avc, I think Fred should change his blog's byline to "Come for the posts, stay for the comments."

My ipad has merged itself into my life in a way I never expected. It is to the point where it has really cannibalized the utility of my iphone, almost to the point of questioning if I need and an iphone (not phone in general). I ordered the wifi version and decided to upgrade to the 3g last week. The iphone used to be my second brain, the ipad is now my second brain and one that is a great edutainment device for my daughter (one that her little fingers can actually use well).

Comment I posted over at there about the ipad. I have been working on a post for awhile about it, but it is hard to describe how much it has ingrained itself into my life in such a short time, both because of, and at the expense of.. the iphone. Its a weird thing and a risk for Apple in my opinion. Hopefully will find some time to finish it up this weekend.

Reserve earns praise, but not our politician
''Karl Marx is probably dancing somewhere,'' he says with a grin. ''Because, in America right now, the government owns the automobile industry, the insurance industry, the mortgage industry and the banking industry. The government suddenly owns huge parts of the American economy - that's what Karl Marx said he wanted, and he didn't have to fire a shot.''. Jim Rogers on China vs the US.

World's Largest Airship Inflated to Create Monster 'Stratellite' - Yahoo! News
"Led Bullet"? pretty amazing size. if this thing can stay aloft for days/weeks/months at what point does it become a (military) base?

Plummeting Marijuana Prices Create A Panic In California : NPR
My counter cyclical investment would be in Lays.

Amazon Reacts To Colorado Internet Sales Tax Measure By Firing Its Colorado Associates
Hate that Amazon is using Affiliates as their leverage with the state, but this could easily turn into a domino effect, they need to kill it with fire now.

The First Ever Gloriously Big, Gloriously Detailed Shots of an iPad Game
Well I have to admit, now I am thinking about getting one.

How Pandora Slipped Past the Junkyard
Amazing how much of Pandora is still based on human input and not algorithmic.

Chile Earthquake Moved Entire City 10 Feet to the West
Diagrams and Mother Nature are amazing.

When It Comes to Salt, No Rights or Wrongs. Yet.
For all the talk about the growing menace of sodium in packaged foods, experts aren’t even sure that Americans today are eating more salt than they used to. Interesting.. we have always tried to avoid sodium when possible.

Absolute Genius.

The Spy at Harriton High
Great read on the tech aspects of the Lower Merion theft tracking situation.

BMW commits to Megacity EV by 2013, will start by testing ActiveE all-electric 1 series next year
2012/2013 is a pretty quick turn around for the auto industry. Certainly makes you wonder how far away they were from it 5 years ago.

From shame to game in one hundred years: An economic model of the rise in premarital sex and its de-stigmatisation
Contraception has reduced the chance of unwanted pregnancies from premarital sex, and this in turn has changed social attitudes. I remember discussing with someone once what we thought the greatest achievement of the 20th century was and I said the Marconi's telegraph, the other person said contraception, they had me agreeing with them after 15 min of discussion.

Making a 3D Model From a Photosynth
Awesome stuff.

A temple complex in Turkey that predates even the pyramids is rewriting the story of human evolution.

FlyFire
Flyfire, a project initiated by the SENSEable City Laboratory in collaboration with ARES Lab (Aerospace Robotics and Embedded Systems Laboratory) aims to transform any ordinary space into a highly immersive and interactive display environment.

WhoseTube?
Follow up oped in the NYT from Damian Kulash (who I featured on page 9 saying pretty much the same thing)

Twitter Tracker for the Olympics
Great way for NBC to keep a pulse on what is popular/or not and not at the Olympics from the app that my friends say is worthless and just people talking about what they ate for breakfast.

Behind the Windows 7 memory usage scaremongering
I really haven't seen anything above 40% usage, will be moving to 64bit next week so hoping that stays the same.

Giant Shrimp Spotted Off Georgia Coast
I was hoping for a little bit more 'giant' when I clicked the link, but still pretty interesting. The article didn't say they were invasive species (it mentioned that was undetermined). Wonder if it causes more headaches for the shrimpers on the coast though to sort.

Plane Crash Suspect's Online Diatribe
Worth reading if you haven't already.

School used student laptop webcams to spy on them at school and home
For some reason I don't think that this conveys the entire story and something is missing. I don't see how any one who has any decency and/or education could think that doing something of this nature is in any way moral or legal.
